I was extremely excited to be at the Oakleigh Recreation Centre this afternoon with Steve Dimopoulos MP for Oakleigh, Monash Mayor Cr Rebecca Paterson, and Cr Lynnette Saloumi. We heard John Eren MP announce that the State Government will contribute $3 million to go with the $12-14 million pledged by the City of Monash to redevelop the Recreation Centre and provide a new home for Waverley Gymnastics Centre.
This is an incredibly exciting project which will result in an earlier than expected development of the aging Recreation Centre, an increase of more than 50% of available floor space for Waverley Gymnastics, an increase of 25% in the available Basketball Courts at the Rec Centre and approximtely $2.5 million in saving for Council.
We now wait to find out whether Julia Banks MP will honour her election committment of $2.1 million towards Waverley Gymanastics.
